2nd Annual Barktoberfest Fun for Fido and the Whole Family

By: Phyllis O'Beollain

It was a gorgeous fall afternoon for the 2nd annual Barktoberfest this past Saturday, October 8, on the front lawn of the Centerville Library on Spring Valley Road.

A fundraiser to benefit both the Washington-Centerville Public Library and SICSA, Barktoberfest was a fun-filled event for both dogs and their keepers!

Hundreds of both showed up, many in costume.

Gift cards were awarded for Dogs Only (Funniest and Scariest), Kids & Pups (Most Creative and Best Look Alikes), and Best in Show.

Following the contest, participants were treated to a parade of extremely well-behaved and good-looking adoptable dogs (Romeo stole the show) from SICSA.

'Friends' groups for both the library and SICSA had booths set up, and pet rescues and vendors of pet-related products and services were on hand as well.  Captain Spish was on hand with Hero (the best dog ever), as well as Pets In Stitches, Miami Valley Pet Therapy AssociationDiamond Pet ResortPortraits by Mendy, pet sitting services Right at Home and People’s & Pet’s Best Friend and more.

Brats, cider, and caramel apples were some of the great fall treats available for the humans (there were snacks for the canines as well!).

Pet first aid services were provided by Suburban Veterinary Clinic, and wonderful live music was provided by Rick Fannin.

It was a most pleasant day in every aspect, and if you missed it this year, you won’t want to miss it in 2012!
